DOVER, Del. — NASCAR is making its first big play in the realm of enlarged legal sports gambling, trusting a sports data venture will cause gamblers being able to wager during races on much greater than just who gets the checkered flag.
Professional Sports has become the exclusive supplier of NASCAR information to licensed sportsbooks, officials announced Friday.
“NASCAR is just one of those sports that I believe has an great opportunity to present an exciting betting product, particularly in-game,” said Expert spokesman Chris Dougan.
Professional Sports will create a formal NASCAR gaming offering for lawful sportsbooks, using NASCAR’s official feed.
The exclusive deal lets Genius Sports assist books provide up-to-the-minute chances and a slew of conventional wagers and prop bets.
“We feel that NASCAR has a little more of an upside from the in-race event experience than some of the other stick-and-ball sports,” said Brian Herbst, senior vice president of broadcasting and invention for NASCAR. “The in-game experience that we are building through Genius will have live odds around NASCAR.”
Therefore a bettor could see chances in their selected driver fluctuate through the race before deciding to place a wager. NASCAR hopes that will keep fans interested (Fox Sports has averaged 5.14 million viewers this season) in observing for the length of a race.
“What could happen in the next five minutes? What could happen in another lap? It opens the door to a massively exciting new marketplace,” Dougan said. “NASCAR is now starting to recognize this is a massive fan engagement instrument. We provide them that supply and that reach.”
Herbst stated it must take six to eight months for the tech to come together for in-race gambling, leading to live race odds by the 2020 season.
Before the beginning of the 2019 season, NASCAR acquired an ethics program and gaming policy in which the sanctioning body allowed all teams and tracks the capability to market marketing sponsorships to sports betting companies and accredited sportsbooks.

They are permitted to take part in fantasy sports concerning the three national touring series, Cup, Xfinity and Truck, but may not accept awards with a value of more than $250 in any matches. The bans are in line with other sports.

“I really don’t think we have done a really good job of accepting the tools that our tool kit and leveraging those,” Herbst said. “We weren’t actually at the gaming dialog until this season. We’re still carrying a sort of pragmatic, staggered approach into it.”
Nevada’s effective monopoly online sports betting ended last spring, when the Supreme Court ruled the ban should be lifted.
